This is an opportunity for a career focussed, ambitious and decisive individual to join a leading businesses in the UK food industry. Working as a Product Technologist you will have responsibilities vital to the smooth and successful running of this national food business, managing all elements relating to the quality, safety, legality, and integrity of the Own Brand category. The role has a real focus on supplier relationships and product quality.

Key Accountabilities:

• Support on NPD/EPD gated launch process and support on timely delivery of safe and legal products, to include signing off artwork in line with current UK labelling regulations.
• Support on verifying compliance with Own Brand Standards, Technical Standards and Ethical Sourcing Policies.
• Lead on NPD process and supply compliance
• Ensures all product specifications within the category are up to date and new product specifications are ready in time for launch.
• Liaise with Product Technical Managers, Product developers, Trading and Own Brand suppliers and/or any other interested parties to help suppliers to complete product specifications and Quality Attributes’ Sheets within agreed timescales.
• Lead on customer complaint investigations and implementing corrective action plans with the supplier.
• Responsible for ongoing product quality assessments of Own Brand products ensuring products are meeting the agreed QAS, recording and escalating any issues and implementing action plans were appropriate.
• Investigates and follows up on out of specification results for any surveillance and authenticity testing.
• Takes ownership of project work to improve due diligence and enhance product quality, in partnership with the supply base.
• Produces detailed supplier performance reports and carries out ongoing supplier evaluation and monitoring, to successfully meet KPI targets.
• Develops technical skills and knowhow on supplier visits, quality management, risk assessment and supplier management by shadowing PTMs and Lead Auditor and produce visit reports as well as closing out non-conformances within agreed timescales.
• Maintains up to date due diligence documents from suppliers where relevant.

Person Specification

• Graduate with a Degree in Food Science or related subject.
• Technically confident, with relevant experience in food manufacturing and/or retail.
• Experience in the Dairy industry is desirable but not compulsory
• Able to nurture effective relationships with Own Brand Suppliers
• Knowledge of BRC, Food Labelling, Food Safety Legislation, Microbiology
• Proficient in Microsoft Office packages and web-based systems.
• Adaptability within a fast growing company environment.
• Focussed on quality, always putting the customer first
• Accurate and with good attention to detail
• Highly organised and self-motivated
