A great opportunity for an experienced Ingredients or Packaging Buyer to join a leading food manufacturer on a fixed term contract

My client is looking for an experienced Buyer in the FMCG industry with Ingredients or Packaging experience, who can come in and hit the ground running and support the business / team for a period of six months.

Job Purpose

As a buyer the main purpose of the role is for the purchasing of raw materials and services across a number of categories.

Developing and implementing category strategies across a portfolio of ingredients and food manufacturing associated indirects, using category management tools and processes.

Building relationships with existing and sourcing / developing new suppliers.

Actively participate in, and support a range of cross-functional project teams which deliver cost, quality & service optimisation, value improvement and innovation development (NPD)

Work across the business functions to ensure that relationships are working as effectively as possible.

Act as first point of contact for supply chain related issues and appropriately manage resolution.

Input into the annual budget for the categories within portfolio, and demonstrate the fundamentals and technical aspects that support the budget positioning, highlighting risk and identify plans to mitigate.

Take a proactive approach in bettering processes and techniques within the department by using initiative and communicating with multiple departments.


Degree level education or MCIPS/CIPS qualified

Have a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a relevant purchasing role.

Procurement knowledge with demonstrable results in managing complex portfolios

Demonstrate strong negotiation skills and be proactive in their approach.

Good analytical and reporting skills, and able to use data to make sound purchasing decisions.

A strong communicator with capability to manage relationships at all levels within the business as well as with stakeholders through the supply chain from suppliers through to customers.

High proficiency in the Microsoft packages, particular focus on Excel.


Experience of working in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.

A competent SAP user with good knowledge of MRP systems.

You must be available within the next four weeks to apply.
