The company

We are seeking a talented and ambitious individual to work for a small but rapidly growing overseas manufacturer of high quality, prepared food products, mostly supplying to a high-end retailer in the UK.

About the Demand Planner job

This is a key role that is integral to the day to day running of the business and its ability to grow. The focus will be on planning, forecasting and problem solving.

The role would suit a candidate with ambitions to take on Account/Client Management responsibilities as you develop in the role.

Reporting to and working closely with the Commercial Manager, other main points of contact will include the Logistics Manager and as the role develops; Supply Chain Planners, Forecast Planners, and the company’s main customer (Marks and Spencer), as well as manufacturing and storage partners.      

Key tasks:

  • Maintain and improve the long-term forecasting system.
  • Use the forecasting system to provide guidance to the factory team and logistics partners to ensure perfect planning.
  • Undertake sales capture and analysis using IRI Worldwide Unify database and Crunch data (specific training available but must understand POS data).
  • Own the daily forecasts supplied by customers and challenge where necessary.
  • Provide insight which will guide product development direction and commercial opportunity.
  • Find new ways of working with our suppliers to improve service and control cost.
  • Support the wider team in customer meetings with insightful presentations.
  • Plan the peak (high volume promotions, seasonal) sales periods
  • Create and develop close working relationships with partners, with the potential for monthly face to face meetings.

Skills & experience required for the Demand Planner job

You must have in-depth knowledge of the food retail industry (FMCG) and its supply chains, ideally within the chilled/frozen sectors.

You must have a good track record, gained within or supplying a major retailer (ideally M&S). Some exposure to the food service industry would also be an asset.

If you are someone with a planning background that wants to work toward supply chain account management, you would be ideally suited to this role.

Key skills:

  • Knowledge of the food industry and the cost elements which affect the value of food.
  • Strong IT/systems use, with good Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Analytical skills, and the ability to data mine EPOS data to help support sales opportunities for the business. e.g. Dunnhumby/Kantar World Panel/IRI Worldwide.
  • Confidence in delivering presentations and producing written reports which may form the basis of communication to customers or internal Directors.
  • Ability and confidence to make changes and improvements within the business.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are also essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of the business affecting the forecast process.

More details

The Demand Planner job is based in London with hybrid working available (1-2 days working from home). The working hours are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week.

The role is paying £40,000 - £45,000 per annum according to your experience plus 25 days of annual leave.
