Sensory Manager

Haddenham

Fixed term contract for 12 months

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Descriptive Programme for the EMEA region and act as panel leader, managing the day to day responsibilities and priorities, including scheduling of test requirements with Project Managers (Screening and recruitment of employee panels, Management of Discrimination Testing Programme, Lead the execution of shelf-life related activities in collaboration with R&D).
  • Advise on correct methodologies to meet project objectives of internal and external customers.
  • Ensure data quality and panel performance always meets highest standards and best practices and results are provided to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Line-management of sensory technician to ensure business needs are met
  • Work collaboratively with global team for methodology alignment to ease internal and external customers communication (global reference library, global descriptive profiling method, etc.).
  • Ensure that best practices are met, and training and coaching is provided regarding any R&D Sensory activities managed locally across EMEA.
  • Actively drive research to develop and implement new methodologies to demonstrate thought leadership internally and externally and provide agility in data harvesting.
  • Compile scientific sensory reports on objective(s), methodologies, and actionable results. Present in appropriate format to stakeholders.
  • Manage the hygiene requirements and maintenance of lab environment.
  • Manage sample storage as well as lab supplies.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Degree Level in Sensory Science, Food Science or related discipline.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with a Sensory/Consumer Science focus.
  • Demonstrable experience in Sensory & Consumer Science in a FMCG environment.
  • Strong panel leading skills, confident in applying multiple methods to support R&D activities with actionable sensory data insights.
  • Strong statistical skills, e.g. multi-variant analysis, analysis of variance, distribution analysis, design of experiments, etc.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Be able to proactively develop Sensory Insights to drive competitive advantage.
  • Excellent people skills, being able to influence across different levels of stakeholders across business units and functions.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
  • Flexible/Adaptable - able to be effective in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop research proposals to business needs.
  • Ability to prioritize and meeting tight timelines.
  • Flexible approach to manage changing business priorities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic about food.
  • Previous experience of using Compusense @Hand software and XLStat, or alternative analysis software.
  • Fully operational in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
