Days based: Monday – Friday (40 hours)

Settle Creamery, BD24 92F, Arla Foods, Settle ,North Yorkshire

Arla Foods are one of the world’s biggest dairy producers with 9 large manufacturing sites.  Join us as an engineer at our Settle site, the home of Lacto-free, and you'll contribute to making food that is loved by millions. Settle is a 24/7 site with c120 people producing UHT and Lactose free milk for UK and Export markets. We are searching for somebody who has a forward thinking mindset that will look to continuously improve systems and ways of working along with developing themselves and others around them.

 

Things we would love to tell you about Settle:

 

  • A well invested, highly automated site which recently received c.£30 million in investment.
  • The Arla Foods Settle Creamery opened in 1963 and over the years has produced milk, butter and at one point mozzarella cheese
  • In 2021, Lactofree production commenced at its Settle plant in Yorkshire following £25m investment
  • The move from its Scandinavian sites was in reduction to the soaring popularity of the Lactofree brand across Europe.
  • Total European value sales from Lactofree rose by 4.7% in 2018, according to statistics. Lactofree milk in particular also continues to perform well, making it one of the UK’s bestselling milk brands#
  • The investment at Arla’s Settle factory has allowed processing capacity to grow by an extra 120 million litres of milk a year to a total of 305 million litres

Responsibilities

This engineering role is not only about proactively maintaining equipment but also developing continuous improvement teams and leading/facilitating these through a number of lean manufacturing areas to deliver improvements across the Dairy. This will mainly include the delivery of planned/predictive engineering maintenance across all  five production lines, continuous improvement and optimisation of our existing PPM schedules. Working with the wider engineering and operations teams you would be responsible for developing and delivering our Preventative maintenance compliance targets year on year and supporting in the upskilling of the engineering apprentices.

Skills

We are looking for candidates with previous experience of working in an automated FMCG manufacturing environment as a strong mechanical Engineer, electrical engineering experience would be advantageous but not compulsory. Having completed a recognised time served apprenticeship in an engineering discipline with ONC qualification, or above, you will have knowledge of manufacturing, filling, packaging and palletisation machinery. Experience of working with electrical systems or/and Tetra Pak equipment would be an advantage.
