R&D Specification Technologist

The Company

This is an exciting opportunity to join a much beloved food business, who produce inspirational food creations for UK and global consumers. They have an impressive laundry list of products across the ambient and chilled categories. They are now seeking an experienced R&D Specifications Technologist to join their ‘snacking’ team and help them retain their reputation for excellent food products.

Please note this is a hybrid role with 2 days in the office, and 3 from home, however we do require candidates to live in the South Coast area (ideally Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Dorset) so they can get to site easily.

The Role

As part of a small R&D team, you will report to the R&D Category Manager and take a significant lead in specification project management. This will entail creating, maintaining, and updating product specifications for a number of brands within the category across the UK and global markets.

This is a new role and a focal point will be communication with internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure key information is gained and logged from 3^rd party manufacturers and suppliers to certify that raw materials and packaging resources are compliant with company expectations. You’ll work closely with internal teams to ensure that specifications are completed correctly and in a timely manner, ready for approval to guarantee successful product launches.

You will support the development and maintenance of digital systems to effectively manage specifications. You will also coordinate the artwork process and ensure all product information is correctly provided. Ultimately you will lead by example in delivering R&D objectives and implement changes in product, quality and sustainability, ensuring continuous improvement from a product specification standpoint.

The Person

We are looking for a confident and self-motivated specifications food professional with a Food Science or related degree, who has a track record of creating specifications and approving artwork for branded food products in the UK. This is a role where you will have to hit the ground running and rely on your technical competence and strong communication skills to ensure success.

Attention to detail, expert organisational skills and sound technical knowledge are key as you will be liaising with the wider business and global teams to ensure projects, demands and timescales align. You will have a passion for food, the ability to seek alternative solutions and adaptable to change to create improvements. You will use your previous knowledge within R&D/NPD to collaborate with the wider team and support the projects you will be involved with.
