A fantastic opportunity to join our busy team and reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for the Packhouse, ensuring all operational activities are completed accurately and to the required standards of quality, legality and safety. 

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the packhouse, ensuring efficient and timely processing of fresh produce according to quality standards and customer specifications.

Develop and implement operational procedures to optimise workflow, minimise waste, and maintain product integrity throughout the packing process.

Manage and coordinate a team of packhouse staff, including training, and performance evaluations, to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.

Collaborate with procurement, technical & quality control, and logistics teams to plan and prioritise packing schedules based on product availability and customer demand.

Maintain strict adherence to food safety standards, hygiene protocols, and regulatory requirements to guarantee the production of safe and high-quality fresh produce.

Monitor and manage equipment maintenance schedules, ensuring that all machinery is in proper working condition to maximise efficiency and minimise downtime.

Implement and enforce quality control measures, conducting regular inspections to identify and address any deviations from quality standards.

Collaborate with suppliers and technical team to optimise packaging materials, ensuring cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing efficiency enhancements and cost-saving measures.

Prepare regular reports on packhouse performance, including productivity metrics, quality control results, and recommendations for process improvements.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in agriculture, business, or a related field; HACCP L2 / 3, Food Safety in Manufacturing, IOSH Health and Safety - other relevant certifications are a plus.

Proven experience in packhouse management within the fresh produce industry.

Strong understanding of packing procedures, quality control, and food safety standards.

Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.

Excellent organisational and communication skills to coordinate with various departments and stakeholders.

Good written and verbal understanding of English and other languages would be beneficial.

Working Hours:

This is a full-time role with the need to be flexible in relation to the hours worked, in-line with the business requirements. Packhouse shifts as follows, working week is Sunday to Friday.

Summer – 2 shifts a day (May to Oct)

Winter – 1 day shift (Nov to Apr)
