Our client, a well-established independent food manufacturer is looking for an Assistant Technical Manager for their site based in Essex.  The successful candidate will provide Technical Support to other internal departments, ensuring the Quality Management system is adhered to and progressed.  

Reporting to the Technical Manager, and supervising a small technical team, responsibilities for the role will include:

• The maintenance and progression of HACCP and BRC Accreditations or other recognised industry standards, including Kosher, Halal and organic
• Conducting scheduled internal audits on Company QMS and HACCP systems 
• Conducting detailed Risk Assessments on production processes and on new and existing equipment 
• Maintaining the company Pest Control Contract, liaising with contractor and conducting follow ups and corrective actions where required
• Assisting in Customer Factory Audits and ensuring corrective action is completed 
• Managing the Complaints system and ensure that any corrective actions, or any technical non-compliance's are effectively addressed
• Conducting Supplier verification and validation cross checking of microbiological and chemical analysis
• Visiting principal suppliers’ sites to ensure appropriate quality standards are in place. Conduct formal quality audits and progress the completion of any agreed corrective actions

Essential / Desirable skills include:

• Food manufacturing factory environment technical expertise
• Internal auditing experience
• HACCP, ideally level 3 
• FSC, ideally level 3
• BRC experience, ideally v9
• Ability to work in a small team with initiative and a pro-active approach

The working hours for the role are Monday to Friday 9am – 5:30pm. The salary is £35k - £45k per annum plus an excellent benefits package.
