The Ocean Fish Group is a vertically integrated seafood processing group based in central Cornwall. We are looking to recruit a Senior Operations Manager to join the leadership team and support our long term growth plans.
The Senior Operations Manager (SOM) will be responsible for the Retail Production Site including the delivery of the production plan ensuring that all production line team members are working safely, efficiently and that product quality is maintained at all times.
It is the responsibility of the SOM to ensure that only suitably trained staff complete any work task. The SOM will manage a skills gap/training matrix to ensure that all identified tasks are suitably trained against. The SOM is responsible for ensuring that all team members are familiar with risk assessments relevant to their activities/tasks. They will ensure that processes and procedures to eliminate or mitigate risk are strictly managed and adhered to at all times, taking accountability for the safety of their teams.
The SOM will ensure that company standards are adhered to at all times following the S (Safety) Q (Quality) P (People) D (Delivery) C (Cost) model by monitoring and controlling company standards through effective KPI management. The SOM will manage personnel performance effectively through the setting and delivering of objectives. They will be fully conversant with the employee review process, following the formal disciplinary process where required. Through the use of data analysis and Lean tools and methodologies, the SOM will strive for a culture of Continuous Improvement, actively looking to reduce or eliminate all types of waste from the business and reduce costs.
The SOM holds accountability for ensuring that the site is audit ready at all times, managing GMP and product quality via the Production Management Team. The SOM must be able to effectively manage any non-conforming product to ensure that the site does not despatch anything that could lead to a product recall.

Responsibilities / KPI’s:
Daily operations of production within the Retail Factory.
Production metrics:
- Safety: Ensure that all Safe Working Procedures are being adhered to at all times.
- Quality: Liaise with the production teams to ensure that quality specifications are adhered to at all times.
- People: Support the team in the implementation and improvement of procedures and processes to ensure required standards of work are met. Assist the team in progressing the team’s development needs through cross training and continuous assessment of training needs.
- Delivery: Ensure that the daily production plan is achieved by way of controlling the throughput of the line v the production plan v labour/headcount. Oversee the delivery of an efficient production and process plan that balances optimisation of equipment and labour resources against customer and legislative requirements. Review efficiencies for each line and drive improvement through data analysis.
- Cost: Ensure Yield targets are achieved by mass balance, using trend reports and live data to ensure that product giveaways are in line with cost targets.
Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure the culture of continuous improvement is maintained and developed within the Retail Site.
Health & Safety:
- Be familiar with the company’s Health and Safety Programme, working with the team to promote and deliver effectively at all times.
Previous Experiences:
- Previous experiences - senior operations / production management level or senior position within a larger management team, experiences of running a team, driving production efficiencies and change. Chilled product experience within FMGC category an advantage.
