Technical Manager
£54000 / year
Central Scotland
Some workplaces can really energize you. This is one of those places. The site is compact and the senior leadership team is fantastic. They're the kind of people you'd love to grab a pint with—down-to-earth, funny, and genuinely wonderful. Plus, they run a successful food factory.
Because it’s a small site, you’ll get involved in all sorts.
Because there’s all sorts to do, it’s kind of okay if you haven’t done everything. Some of it you can learn on the job. On the other hand, because there’s a lot to do, you’re going to have to be able to do the majority of the job already.
What the job is
On paper, it’s a Technical Manager. Okay, to be fair, it actually IS a Technical Manager. But it’s that and a lot more.
You’re managing a few QAs, a QA Manager who was promoted from within, and an NPD Technologist. You’ll do the obvious bits – internal audits, BRC prep, customer visits, etc. Then the less obvious bits. Specifications. Supporting the NPD Tech with the stage gating process.
This will either suit you, or it won’t. It is what it is though, so if it doesn’t sound like you then don’t apply (there’s other jobs!).
Why you might want to do it
- Friendly, warm culture onsite – people enjoying coming into work.
- Opportunities to progress within a wider group.
- Super varied day to day responsibilities.
It’s a pretty special place. It’s a small factory. The process is fairly labour intensive. There’s loads of products. Plenty of changeovers. The core team has been there for a long time and they get on really well. It’s a nice place to work.
They’re not going to hire someone who doesn’t get on with them. Which means what? It means if you get the job, you’re going to be working with a bunch of people who really like you. And value your input.
Normally, the cost of this lovely culture and smaller business is a lack of progression.
Not so here.
A little while ago, the business went through an acquisition. Now they’ve got owners with big plans and deep pockets. It’s like a plucky underdog nestled in the security and safety of a global business. There’s trips abroad to meet colleagues. There’s a push on work life balance. There’s opportunities for new customers and processes. There’s a constant stream of NPD. One person moved from the quality function to an entirely different function, because it’s where their passion lay.
What you’ll need
- You’ve been building a career in the quality or technical department of a food manufacturer.
- You’ve been doing that for a number of years, and at least got to Quality Manager level.
- Adaptability! It’s such a varied role, if you need very clear lines between roles, you might struggle. So being adaptable is key.
- A sense of humour. Or at least a good attitude! The site team care about each other. This means you’ll enjoy your work and they’ll enjoy working with you.
If you’re interested, you have the right background in food manufacturing, in technical or quality, and you want to apply, then please do. Happy to discuss the role with you.
