You will be working in our small technical team, in our bakery, initially as Maternity cover but we'd love you to stay and help develop the role further. You'd be responsible for food safety compliance and ensuring the safety of the bakery.
We bake a wide range of handmade products in our Chipping Sodbury bakery, which are sold locally in our shops and other outlets, and also used nationwide.
The role is part time, we're happy to talk about what hours suit you (and us).

Specific Responsibilities
Job role foundations:
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point)
- Food Safety Manual
Food Safety:
- Managing and overseeing a team of 3: Specifications Technologist (legal labelling compliance - artwork approval; specification management; supplier approval; internal audits; TACCP/VACCP), Technical Assistant (ensuring paperwork completion, calibration of scales and probes, shelf life testing), Quality Assurance Technician (newly created role).
- HACCP Team Leader.
- Horizon scanning - for new and upcoming risks and legislation.
- Management and continuous improvement of the food safety manual in compliance with legal requirements and SALSA standards.
- Leading SALSA, Soil Association, customer and EHO audits.
- Overseeing pest control contractors.
- Ensuring the satisfactory investigation and close out of food safety related customer complaints.
- Conducting 6 monthly retail audits in preparation for EHO visits.
- Overseeing product sampling and testing programme - including shelf-life testing, yeast and mould, gluten free.
- Identifying training needs and communicating with the People Development Manager.
- Supporting all building developments from a food safety perspective.
- Any other task that may be reasonably required from time to time.
Key Skills:
- BSc(Hons) degree in a food related subject.
- HACCP level 4 desirable, minimum level 3.
- Food safety level 3.
- Attention to detail.
- Effective communication with all areas and levels of the business.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Knowledge of MS office.
- Basic knowledge of specification systems.
- Minimum of 3 years in a food manufacturing environment managing within the Technical function.
