Head of Technical / Fresh Produce / Doncaster

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the Head of Group Technical position at a leading UK fresh produce supplier in the retail and wholesale sectors. The successful candidate will oversee the Company's technical and quality control teams, ensuring the highest standards across their two key sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement, manage, and own the Technical and Quality Control systems across all sites.
  • Ensure robust quality management systems are in place, guaranteeing that all products are safe, high-quality, legally compliant, and meet customer-specific requirements.
  • Develop technical strategies to continuously improve and add value to the Company's products, ensuring proactive quality control.
  • Foster a strong quality culture across all manufacturing sites, aiming to retain the BRC AA+ rating.
  • Drive quality objectives by conducting site audits and ensuring compliance requirements are met.
  • Serve as the primary contact for Government and Non-Governmental bodies, including customer technical teams.
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach on technical issues, supporting commercial colleagues as needed.
  • Supervise and manage the technical team,
  • Ensure that the Company's grower base meets all required accreditations, including Red Tractor, SEDEX, LEAF Marque, and Soil Association where applicable.
  • Liaise with procurement to ensure timely submission of grower documents and forms.
  • Work closely with intake and production teams to ensure proper stock management.


Required Experience, Skills, and Qualities:
  • Experience in the food industry, preferably in fresh produce sectors.
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of BRC v9 standards.
  • Strong background in food safety systems, HSE, and due diligence.
  • HACCP qualified (Level 4 preferred).
  • IOSH qualification (desirable).
  • Good knowledge of agronomy.
  • Experience working with supermarket technical and quality control teams.
  • Commercially minded with strong customer service skills.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar management role.
  • Strong leadership skills, with excellent organization and communication abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and delivering initiatives.


Package:
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Competitive salary package.
  • Death in service package (after two years of full service).
  • Free onsite parking.
