Factory Technical Manager

MUST HAVE PRODUCE EXPERIENCE 

Job Description:

The Factory Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all QA policies and procedures. The Factory Technical Manager provides leadership, support, and guidance directly to their team and indirectly and directly to other plant personnel to ensure; food quality standards, food safety guidelines, legal requirements (as they pertain to food safety) and customer expectations are met. The Factory Technical Manager reports directly to the Head of Technical. They will assure consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good, automated manufacturing practice (GMP) systems, validating processes, providing documentation, and managing staff.

Requirements:

  • Strong supervisory, communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Very detail oriented.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in the Produce industry is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GMP and food safety regulations is a plus
  • Effective organizational skill; Able to manage priorities and complexities
  • Knowledge of processing machines.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Internal Audit, PCQI, HACCP, and SFQ Practitioner certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication, training, and team building skill.
  • Good writing, statistical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and respond to the concerns of managers, subordinates, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities at one time.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Incoming Raw Materials/ Inspection/ Inform QA Manager and Operations
  • Manager if there are quality issues.
  • Fill out Receiving Log.
  • Inspect incoming fresh produce and fill out and share the Fresh Produce Inspection Report.
  • First in First Out (FIFO) inventory management.
  • Identify, label, date, and make a daily inventory list of all WIP products in the coolers.
  • Production Line Quality Checks including product quality, case quality, Tsunami checks, Metal detector check and room temperature checks.
  • Fill out Non-conforming form for products not in specification.
  • Put Non-conforming products on Hold.
  • Maintain Hold release log.
  • Serve as member HACCP Team
  • Train employees.
  • Keeps up to date with relevant international, federal, state and local regulations
  • Ensure all current certification requirements are met as well as the addition and/or compliance of any new required certification.
  • Maintains the Quality Management Food Safety (QMFS) system.
  • Ensures the food quality and safety procedures outlined in the QMFS are communicated to all necessary personnel and correctly implemented.
  • Reviews and approves monitoring activities to ensure food safety parameters are met.
  • Holds and tracks non-conforming product.
  • Authorizes product release as it pertains to food safety.
  • Communicates all Hold and Release activity to relevant department.
  • Analyses activities outlined in the QMFS for completion, efficacy, and efficiency.
  • Tracks completion of corrective action and verifies preventative actions.
  • Issues corrective actions for the incorrect or ineffective implementation of the QMFS system Identifies improvement opportunities for the QMFS.
  • Works with senior management on the development and revision of policies and procedures as they pertain to food quality and safety.
  • Completes responsibilities outlined in the QMFS which include, but are not limited to:
    • Scheduling calibrations and maintaining records.
    • Ensuring the completion of employee training activities designed to keep employees knowledgeable, informed, and in compliance with food quality and safety standards and procedures relevant to their job function.
    • Responsible for ensuring effectiveness of trainings provided.
    • Obtains compliance documents from suppliers and vendors.
    • Updating and tracking all QMFS document changes.
    • Mock Recalls.
    • Internal audits Directs and schedules customer, 3rd party, and regulatory audits.
  • Completes audit checklist and is responsible for the completion of any corrective actions issued.
  • Interacts with regulatory personnel, food safety auditors, and customers to maintain positive and responsive relationships and ensure rapid corrective actions through dynamic leadership and timely documentation.
  • Investigates customer complaints using root cause analysis and works with department managers to determine what corrective and preventative actions are necessary.
  • Responds to complaints in the required timeframe.
  • Prepares a monthly written report for management recapping food safety and quality issues, trends, corrective actions, and preventive measures taken.
  • Leads annual management review- any changes made and verifies their compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Completes customer compliance documentation.
  • Communicates document and specification updates to all relevant departments.
  • Reviews and approves lab testing charges.
  • Reviews environmental results.
  • Orders lab supplies and additional items as necessary.
  • Relays audit schedule to necessary personnel.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the day to day management of the Quality Assurance team including training and development of QA staff and clear identification of objectives to meet the company needs.
  • May assist other managers in supervisory responsibilities as necessary.

Salary: up to £60,000
