THE ROLE

In this role you will be advising our client, their suppliers and Ashbury advisors, on how to get it right. You will be using your regulatory knowledge and experience to inquisitively question and challenge to ensure our client can demonstrate Ashbury clients have due diligence and are compliant with the law. You will be accountable for quality, accurate and timely risk-based advice, which enables our customer to launch products competitively and safely.

This role is key to the delivery of our services to our client. You will be part of a small Regulatory Team within Ashbury, working as an extension of our clients QA team. The Regulatory Team is made of both industry and regulatory professionals, with expertise across manufacturing, enforcement and retail. On a day-to-day basis you will report into a Regulatory Manager, who is responsible for delivery of services to our client.

You will be responsible for:

    • Providing regulatory advice to Ashbury and its client, to ensure products are legally compliant. The advice should be risk based, commercially competitive and in line with the clients’ policies, where applicable
    • Researching and horizon scanning for changes and developments, which effect the regulatory landscape in which Ashbury and our clients operate
    • Reviewing and advising changes to Ashbury clients’ policies, considering new regulations, guidance, and codes of practice
    • Client customer complaint management, writing responses and managing escalated and/or serious complaints.
    • Providing risk-based recommendations to complaints/enforcement challenges for our Ashbury client
    • Leading/Supporting our client through a product recall/withdrawal process, producing information to support this process where required
    • Liaising with central & local government agencies and industry bodies, i.e., FSA/FSAI, EFSA, Primary Authorities, laboratories, BRC, BIS and ASA etc.
    • Delivering training on regulatory & technical topics to Ashbury and its client
    • Developing relationships with client Technical/Regulatory decision makers, influencing, discussing and debating regulatory matters
    • Attend client meetings to discuss Regulatory affairs
    • Producing expert opinion content on subject matters, as required for marketing and training purposes.
    • Presenting expert opinion on subject matters internally and externally
    • Keeping up to date with legal requirements and labelling policies and ensuring the dissemination of information within business
    • Maintaining and growing your expertise in one or more subject areas.
    • Carrying out product information services, such as formulation, regulatory adaptations, specification/pack copy review, artwork review, alignment, and branded product reviews for compliance, as required.
    • Executing Performance checks.
    • Monitoring and raising performance concerns.
    • Identify and communicate training needs.

Requirements

Skillset

Essential

    • Degree level educational qualifications in food science, food law, consumer law or other relevant qualification or experience.
    • In-depth regulatory knowledge in food law and/or product safety, including codes of practice, policies, guidance, and standards
    • Excellent understanding of legal requirements, challenges and consumer trends relating to product information
    • Maintaining an awareness of relevant changes in the regulatory environment due to new legislation, case law, codes of practice and guidance
  • Confident in applying knowledge and experience to advice, tailoring to the client and scenario

Experience

Essential

    • Minimum 5 years of experience of working in a regulatory role within industry or enforcement or in a related field
    • Fluent in spoken and written English
    • Fluent in spoken and written language required for market/region
    • Demonstrable experience of independent working, managing your own workload and time management
    • Demonstrable risk-based decision making
    • Confident to apply requirements to product information and communicating decisions to clients.
    • Fluency in one or more other languages
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the retail and manufacturing, including the product launch process
    • Demonstrate an awareness of client PLM systems and the product information advice we deliver to clients
    • Excellent oral, written communication skills, including IT and presentation skills
    • Able to explain complex requirements in a simple way
    • Supports the growth of colleagues through training, mentoring and coaching
    • Able to risk assess a situation, providing a risk appropriate solution which resolves the issue.
    • Ability to research and gather information using available resources
    • Welcomes guidance and understands the commercial environment
    • Stress resilient and able to work against tight deadlines
    • Positive approach to opportunities to develop into new areas as Ashbury grows
    • Consistently works at expected work rate and to a high level of accuracy.
