This company is a great one – a well-established food manufacturer that sells into Tesco and the Co-op.

They are super passionate about their people and know all of their staff, down to their farmers.

They also have the backing of their government, who own 40% of the business – so they are extremely stable, but the government keeps it at arm’s length so as to let them run themselves.

It’s a great opportunity to sit with the MD and drive the company in the right direction.

They’ve recently launched a brand-new apprenticeship program to upskill the next generation of food enthusiasts and have just appointed several new board members as part of a new push to keep moving the business in the right direction.

The Role

Being honest, you will probably have to relocate for this one, it’s based on the Isle of Man.

BUT – it sounds like a genuinely nice place to go and live for several reasons:

Tax is much lower – 10% at the lower end, and 22% at the upper end. The Government is trying to attract more skilled workers to the island, so is offering a rebate of national insurance back into the pot – up to £6000. It was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere in 2016 in recognition of the vibrant community, valued environment, and resilient economy. You will be in charge of the finances for the business, looking after a small finance team, and communicating financial reporting and forecasting to the board.

You’ll also be in charge of payroll – weekly for the production staff, and monthly for the SLT.

Ideally, you will have a good background in senior financial management in manufacturing.

Food manufacturing would be perfect, but any manufacturing would be fine, especially if it is heavily process driven.

A knowledge of financial laws and risks is essential.

And, of course, you will have to be willing to move to a beautiful island – it’s a beautiful place to bring up families, and if you’re single, who knows - the love of your life might be waiting for you!
