We are small independent artisan bakers in the beautiful town of Hay On Wye. We have new owners that are looking for passionate and dedicated people to help with some amazing new plans to take this business to the next level.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of our small, friendly and passionate team, working for a well-established and respected high-quality independent retail artisan bakery.
The Person:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and organised player with a passion for producing high-quality and delicious bakery products to join our small and focused team to assist with the overall operation and production, making each of the products irresistible and ensuring our age-old recipes are followed.
The Role:
- Open Bakery early morning and set up for the day
- Clean kitchen equipment and tools before use
- Meticulously prepare ingredients ready for mixing
- Make and bake a range of different products using high quality ingredients to our timeless company recipes from scratch (cakes, croissant, choux, tarts, pies, pizza, sourdough, long fermentation breads)
- Manually shape or use the relevant machines to make various products.
- Mix and create various types of fillings
- Maintain an awareness of the weekly production plan and ensure that this is always met.
- Stock control and assist in purchase planning
- Perform key quality and food safety checks
- Develop new recipes and products in conjunction with the owner (e.g. gluten-free, vegan)
- Prepare custom-made pastries to customer orders
The Requirements and Skills:
- Experienced as a baker or pastry chef or similar role within a retail environment
- Familiarity with all professional kitchen mixers, blenders and dough sheeters
- Understanding of food safety practices (to at least level 2)
- Experience with cake decorating techniques
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
- Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude
- Flexibility to work in early morning shifts
- Certificate from a culinary school is a plus
- A positive, can-do attitude and able to work on own initiative.
More Details
The Artisan Baker job is based in Hay On Wye and is paying up to £30,000 according to your experience.
The package includes free food e.g. a filled roll, 20 days paid holiday and a bonus incentive scheme after a qualifying period
The working hours are 40 hours a week
You will need to be flexible with working hours and weekend work as we are a small hands-on team.
