Pullins Bakery is a fourth-generation family business, producing high quality ambient and frozen bakery products from three production sites. The business has received multiple awards and recognition for its products, which it sells through five retail shops, as well as national accounts.

About the Technical Assistant
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the purpose of your role is to help maintain company policies and procedures in line with the relevant industry standards and customer requirements, whilst ensuring that the company is compliant with all relevant legislation. 

This role requires working across multiple sites including our Gluten Free Bakery, Shops and Artisan Bread Bakery.

Key tasks
• Providing technical information & guidance to customers.  
• Completing information requests and maintaining the relevant databases/ spreadsheets.
• Leading on microbiological and environmental sampling schedules, including compiling and dispatching lab samples & logging results. Ensuring routine cleaning is validated through hygiene and rapid allergen swabbing.
• Managing the Internal Auditing programme, completing technical checklists and compliance checks across our production sites and shops including FSI/GMP, GHBP and Personal Hygiene. You will be a core member of the Internal Auditing team and assist with scheduling.
• Leading the traceability programme, you will schedule exercises against the IA programme and site accreditation requirements for traceability including provenance, mass balance, withdrawal, and recall across 2 sites.
• Technical Lead for our smaller Gluten Free site.
• Manage raw material /packaging and process non-conformances, ensuring timely close out by all departments.
• Coordinating and completing customer complaint reports and supplier non-conformances relating to technical and quality matters.
• Ensuring that good working practice is maintained at all times in accordance with the Company’s health and safety policy and that our statutory and customer requirements are met in full. 
• Managing the shelf-life extension system
• Carry out pack copy and legislative checks for packaging, labels and product specifications.
• Complete routine equipment calibration checks as per the schedule for temperature & weight
• Ensure internal databases are maintained and updated as required
• Assist with and lead external audits & customer visits.
• Deputise for the Technical & HSE Manager

Supporting roles:
Assist with maintaining the allergen matrix for finished goods
Support with developing and maintaining the QMS, including implementation of accreditation bodies.
Support with the rolling out of new policies & procedures
Oversee the maintenance of the raw material register of approved ingredients
Support with QA/QC checks on incoming physical raw materials, packaging and label receipt processes.
Oversee compliance checks on operational team paperwork 

About You
• Great organisational, time management and communication skills.
• Ability to think on your feet and problem solve.
• Relevant experience in a Q.A / technical role.
• Analytical skills with a good eye for detail.
• Confidence to liaise with people at all levels and the ability to communicate concisely and effectively with both suppliers and customers using both oral and written skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a warm welcoming manner.
• Self-motivated with an ability to work under pressure and use initiative.
• Proficient IT skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.

Desirable
• The applicant should have experience in food industry and preferably have experience with BRC / SALSA.
• Level 3 HACCP Qualification.
• Food Safety Qualification.
• Internal Auditing Qualification
• Understanding of TACCP/Food Defence Ability to interpret risk assessments.
• Food labelling legislation knowledge

More Details
The Technical Assistant role is based at our Kenn Moor Bakery, BS21 6TZ. 
The working hours are Monday to Friday, typically 8am – 4pm, though start and finish time is flexible.
